Experienced Staff

Kim Bartle has been on staff for 7 years as part of her over 16 years of camp experience. She loves returning to Temagami to experience the challenge and serenity that accompanies canoe tripping in the region and finds particular inspiration by the physical and emotional growth in each camper as they face and overcome obstacles on the trail and develop an appreciation of the power and beauty of the wilderness.

Kim is certified as a Wilderness Advanced First Aid (“WAFA”) and has her First Aid and CPRC qualifications. In addition, she is currently completing her Masters in Occupational Therapy at Queen’s University in Kingston to supplement her Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Child, Youth and Family Relations at the University of Guelph.

Jodi Johnston has been a camp counselor for over 5 years as part of her 13 years of camp experience. Jodi loves to teach campers about guiding and enjoying the outdoors while watching them become more confident in the camping and canoeing skills. She particularly loves to see campers challenge themselves in different situations and respond favourably to those challenges in their own way.

Jodi works as a teacher in York Region and loves coaching and playing competitive baseball and volleyball. She is ORCA Level 1 in both Moving and Lake Water, has a WAFA certificate and has been a Wilderness First Responder. She has a Bachelor of Recreation and Leisure Studies from Brock University in St. Catherines and a B. Ed. with Honours in Outdoor and Experiential Education from Queen’s University in Kingston including Part 1 for Special Education.

Kate Hubbs has been with Camp Temagami for 6 years, 4 of which has been as a member of our staff. She particularly enjoys being in a beautiful environment where young campers are able to gain new experiences and gain a high measure of self-esteem. She especially revels in the amount of growth in skills, personality, confidence and friendships within and among campers over the course of a canoe trip.

In addition to “Being Rugged” (inside joke – ed.), Kate is certified as a Wilderness First Responder and is currently in her third year of Civil Engineering at Queen’s University in Kingston.

Andrew Milligan has been at Camp Temagami for 6 years including the past 2 years on staff.  He loves the landscape in the Temagami region and the detachment from dependency on electronic living such as cellphones, the internet, etc. He especially enjoys the personal challenge that canoe tripping presents to campers both young and old and revels in the opportunity to share his experience and skills with them.

Andrew is in his second year at Queen’s University and has applied to be a Big Brother in Kingston. In addition he has his NLS, CPR “C” with standard First Aid and WAFA certificates.

Andrew Bartle Andrew has been camping for over 14 years including a 4-year stint with Camp Temagami. In addition he has been on staff for the past 7 years. He looks forward to returning to the Temagami region each year to not only challenge and watch the growth of individual campers but to challenge himself and explore new trails off the beaten path. In his time with the camp, Andrew has tripped in Temagami, North-eastern Ontario, Quebec and Labrador.

Andrew is a graduate of Nipissing University with an Honours BA in Environmental Geography and is considering Teachers College. When he is not working at Camp Temagami, he spends his winters working at a hiking lodge in the Rockies, and travelling to foreign hiking opportunities. He is a Wilderness First Responder.

Melissa Kolodziechuk has been camping for over  15 years and has been with us for the past 2 summers.. She looks forward to exploring new areas within and without the Temagami region and experiencing firsthand a landscape that defines this country.

Melissa has her B. Ed. and is a teacher of Grade 9 students at the York School in Toronto. She also has her NLS and WAFA certificates.

Rebecca Wylie has been at Camp Temagami for the past 2 summers after having been canoe tripping for the previous 7 years. She loves all aspects of being a guide to campers and tripping all over Ontario and the rest of the Canadian shield.

Rebecca is in her second year of university at Carleton University where she is studying biology. She also has her NLS and WAFA certifications.

Gilbert Coyle has been with Camp Temagami for 10 years and has been on staff for the past 4 years. Along with Justis Danto-Clancy, Gilbert is the first to progress through the entire program at Camp Temagami beginning at the age of 10 to join our staff.

Gilbert is in his third year at Queen’s University in Kingston and has his NLS and WAFA certifications. He has tripped with the camp throughout Ontario and Labrador.

Ben Coyle has been with the camp for 8 years, the last 2 of which have been on our staff. Ben loves all aspects of canoe-tripping and has regarded his return to Camp Temagami as his annual highlight throughout his high school years.

Ben is in his second year at Dalhousie University and has his NLS and WAFA certifications. He also plays a mean guitar and can entertain even the most cynical of campers with his talent and wit. He has tripped with the camp throughout Ontario, Quebec and Labrador.

Will Nakhid has been with the camp for 8 years, the last 2 of which have been on our staff. Will enjoys the opportunity to be in a wilderness settings and imparting the best of his experience with campers.

After spending the past year travelling the world, Will is about to enter his first year at the University of Toronto. Will has tripped in Ontario, Quebec and Labrador with the Camp.

Chris Mitchell has been on our staff for the past 3 years and has been canoe tripping in some capacity for over 9 years. She particularly enjoys the serenity that accompanies getting up early and taking to a quiet calm lake first thing in the morning. She also enjoys watching campers gain new skills and confidence in their performance over the course of a canoe trip.

Chris has her B. Ed. and is a full-time teacher with the Toronto District School Board at an alternative school. She was an English Major at University and has her WAFA and Bronze Medallion. In her spare time, she is a Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor.

Emily Swan has been with Camp Temagami for 6 years, the past 2 of which she has been on staff. She loves the sense of journey that canoe-tripping offers and particularly loves to be able to travel with people who share the same love and appreciation for canoe-tripping and the wilderness in general.

She is currently in her second year at Champlain College in Burlington Vermont and studies Psychology. She has a WAFA certificate and has her American Red Cross Lifeguard qualification. As a former recipient of our A.D. Gunn Award, she is also the daughter of a Camp Wigwasati Alumnus, the first camper to work through Camp Temagami’s program and join our staff.

Leigh Eubank joined our staff this year after having been a camp counselor for the previous 6 years in other organizations and been a camper for a further 2 years. Leigh loves the challenge of bringing together a group of disparate individuals to be able to function as a team to execute tasks that none would have dreamed possible less than one week previously. She loves to see the growth that wilderness tripping makes possible.

Leigh has graduated from University and spent last year in Bolivia living with a family while studying Spanish. This year she will be coaching rowing to inner city students in Boston and getting back into competitive rowing. Leigh has her WAFA and Red Cross Life Gurading certificates.

Oriano Pokornoy has been with Camp Temagami for 4 years and has canoe-tripped for additional 2 years. She especially loves eaves-dropping on camper conversations after their trip as they compare notes about their challenges, their fun  and their aspirations for the coming years.

Oriana has her BSc and B.Ed. degrees and teaches science when her travel schedule permits. She also has her WAFA certification. She plays a mean flute when her audience gives her the space to fly.

Justis Danto-Clany has been with Camp Temagami for 10 years and has been on staff for the past 4 years. Along with Gilbert Coyle, Justis is the first to progress through the entire program at Camp Temagami beginning at the age of 10 to join our staff.

Justis is in his third year at King’s College in Halifax and has his NLS and WAFA certifications. He has tripped with the camp throughout Ontario and Labrador.

Jamie Bartle has been with the camp for the past 4 summers. He particularly loves the challenge of bringing together a group in a wilderness setting to execute important day-to-day functions and tasks.

Jamie has a rapier wit and a talent for performance that keeps everyone on their toes.

Laura Cornish has been with Camp Temagami for 5 years and has tripped all over the Temagami region as well as Quebec and Labrador.

Laura is currently commencing a Masters in Enivronmental Studies in Vancouver after having worked for the Province of BC for the past 2 years. She also has a joint Honours degree in Political Science and International Development Studies at McGill University.

Nick Georgiade has been with the camp for 10 years as both a camper and a guide. He has paddled all over the Temagami area and this summer he participated in his fifth trip to James Bay.

Nick has a Masters in Outdoor Education and is close to completing a Doctorate at Duke University in North Carolina.
